ST DENIS DE MERE

 

Forte aujourd’hui de 771 habitants (2020), cette commune a presque perdu son statut rural. Dans le bourg, nous pouvons contempler le manoir St Martin (XIXeme siècle) qui avec ses tourelles et ses hauts murs garnis de créneaux, rappelle l’architecture des châteaux-forts. Enfin, une légende qui a acquis une forme presque historique raconte qu’originellement, la foire St Denis se tenait à St Denis de Méré. Son seigneur l’aurait perdue sur un coup de dés au profit de son homologue de Montilly.

With its 771 inhabitants (2020), this down has almost most its rural status. In the down centre, one cannot help but think of medieval castle while looking at the turrets and high crenellated walls of nineteenth century Saint Martin manor. Last but not least, a légende, now raised to historical fact claims that the famous Saint Denis fair was held at Saint Denis de Méré. The Lord of the down is said to have gambled it away to its Montilly counterpart where the fair is being held every year eversince.
